Dibrugarh: A marathon race aimed at combating drug abuse among youth drew an impressive turnout of 300 participants in Boleng, the headquarters of Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh, on Sunday. State-level athletes were among the participants, reports Rajib Dutta.
State transport minister Ojing Tasing flagged off the event. The men’s category covered a challenging 10km route with a 45-minute completion target, while the women competed in a 6km race with a 30-minute time frame.
In the men’s category, Harang Cheri from East Kameng district emerged victorious, followed by Somo Binggep from Upper Siang and Taja Tatin from Siang. The women’s category saw Jyoti Mane from Shi-Yomi district claiming the top spot, with Albina Doley from East Siang and Ajok Libang from Upper Siang securing second and third positions respectively.

The Andhra Pradesh government has established the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (Eagle) to address increasing drug trafficking and abuse. Headed by a senior police officer, the unit will operate under the DGP and have branches across all 26 districts. Eagle will focus on prevention, investigation, and prosecution of drug-related crimes, with a budget of Rs 8.59 crore.
