Prayagraj: A 15-year-old student of class 9 was murdered allegedly by the family members of a girl who studied with him in the same class, in Prayagraj on Saturday night, police said.
Three people, including the girl's father, have been detained for questioning.
Station house officer, Utrav, Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said the boy left home at 8pm on Saturday (Nov 30), informing his parents that he was going to a dairy.
When he didn't return, the family members and villagers searched for him and found his body 200 metres away from the house.
"Police recovered a mobile phone which belonged to one of the accused, a sharp-edged weapon, and a slipper of one of the assailants from the spot. It was found during investigation that the boy reportedly had an affair with a girl of his class who belonged to another community. The girl's family members spotted her with the boy. They strangled him and then hit him on the back of his head with a sharp-edged weapon. The boy died on the spot."
Senior police officials deployed additional police force in the village to defuse tension. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
