Rourkela: Body of a 45-year-old Asha worker, Subasini Naik, was recovered from a pond in Sundargarh district on Sunday afternoon, a day after she went missing.
Police suspect foul play as injury marks were found on her body. The exact cause of death will only be ascertained after a post-mortem. Subasini, of Kudabaga village, was staying near her in-laws' house after her husband's death. Her son is currently pursuing a BEd degree in Karnataka.
According to her brother-in-law, Subasini had gone to the pond on Saturday afternoon to bathe but did not return. Despite a search by family members, she could not be traced, prompting her brother-in-law to file a missing person report at Bhasma police station on Sunday.
Bhasma police then called the fire service team. Fire service personnel recovered her body on Sunday. "The body of the deceased has been kept in the morgue at Sundargarh district headquarters hospital. Her son has been informed, and the post-mortem will be conducted after his arrival. After getting a complaint, we will register a case accordingly," said R P Nag, IIC of Bhasma police station.
