Mangaluru: As part of the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, a multicultural festival featuring diverse cultural programmes from various linguistic cultures will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the multicultural festival in the presence of speaker UT Khader, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, minister for minor irrigation, science and technology NS Boseraju and CM's legal advisor AS Ponnappa on Tuesday at 11am. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will preside.
In commemoration of the state's renaming to Karnataka and the completion of fifty years, the state govt has organised the Karnataka Suvarna Sambhrama golden jubilee celebrations under the theme ‘Let Karnataka be the name, let Kannada be the breath'. The festival will be organised jointly by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Arebhashe Academy, Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, and Yakshagana Academy, in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada district administration.
On Tuesday, at 9am, a grand cultural procession will take place from Ambedkar Circle to the Town Hall, showcasing the cultural richness of the coastal and Kodagu districts. Various academy art troupes and numerous tableaux from the district administrations of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu, as well as the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), will participate.
On Tuesday, cultural events will be held from 2pm to 9pm. These will include the ‘Arebhashe Siri Samskruti' dance drama by the Arebhashe Academy, Dolu Vadana Gajamela, and Dudi Kunitha by the Tulu Sahitya Academy, and performances such as Kombu-Kott, Ummattat, Dudikott Paat, Gejjetand Aat, Urtikott Aat, Bolakaat, Katthiyaat, Pareyakali, and Kolata by the Kodava Sahitya Academy.
The Konkani Sahitya Academy will present cultural dances from the Siddi and Kudubi communities, as well as Bailo dance, while the Beary Sahitya Academy will showcase Daff dance, Oppana Paat, and Kolata performances. At 6pm, the Yakshagana Academy will present the Yakshagana episode ‘Sridevi Bhuvaneshwari'. On Wednesday, from 4.30pm, the Yakshagana Academy will host a Yakshagana music concert.
