Nagpur: The traffic department of the city police continued to spread awareness about the importance of helmets for pillion riders on the second consecutive day after announcing the rule's blanket enforcement of the rule.
The traffic department, led by DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak, on Thursday evening announced that traffic police would soon start strictly implementing the mandatory helmet for pillion rider rule.
On Saturday, TOI spotted only a handful of people wearing helmets while riding pillion on a two-wheeler. Many traffic cops were seen on roads educating motorists about the necessity of wearing helmets by the pillion riders. Speaking to TOI, Chandak said that the police department is still focusing on spreading awareness. "People need time to accumulate with enforcement of helmet rule for pillion riders. We will continue to spread awareness about this for a few more days before strictly implementing the rule. Currently, we are educating people on road through our staff and from smart traffic booths and mobile vans," said DCP Chandak.
" Wearing a helmet saves lives, and people must follow rules rather than objecting to it," said a motorist.
