Kanpur: A thief disguised as a woman wearing ‘salwar suit' broke into the residence of a businessman in Govind Nagar police station area.
During investigation the burglar was identified as the contractor handling the construction work at the premises. The accused was arrseted after analysing more than 100 CCTV footage.
DCP South Ankita Sharma provided details about the theft, which occurred on Nov 18. Valuables worth 15 lakh, including jewellery and cash, were stolen from the residence of a spare parts trader Manish Goyal in Govind Nagar J Block.
Manish had gone to attend a wedding with his family. Upon returning next day at 4am he found the first-floor entrance locked.
Beliveing it to be a snag in the family went to the flat of Manish's brother on second floor. Next morning they found a window open and on entering through it they found a damaged wardrobe. They found cash amounting Rs 1,50,000 and jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh missing from the safe.
The DCP reported that surveillance footage analysis showed a person in a salwar suit and a masked individual. Further examination of the footage revealed the burglar's face. Manish identified the burglar as Satyam Yadav, his construction contractor.
Police verification of Satyam's whereabouts and communications during the theft confirmed his involvement. Upon arrest, Satyam Yadav, a resident of Mudra Shahi village, Rura Kanpur Dehat, currently residing in Bihari Purwa, Gujaini, admitted to the crime.
Following Satyam's confession, the police also nabbed his accomplice, a student from Juhi Hari Colony, Kidwai Nagar. The authorities recovered the stolen cash and gold ornaments from both suspects.
