Tata Motors launches eco-friendly vehicle scrapping facility in Pune

Tata Motors and Tata International inaugurated a new vehicle scrapping facility, "Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect," in Pune. This facility, operated by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), has an annual capacity of 21,000 vehicles and utilises environmentally sound processes. The inauguration took place today and marks a significant step towards a circular economy and sustainable vehicle recycling in India.

Tata Motors Re.Wi.Re facilities

The new Pune facility is the sixth Re.Wi.Re location, joining existing facilities in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR. It is designed to scrap both passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands. This reinforces Tata Motors' commitment to sustainable practices and responsible end-of-life vehicle management. The facility uses advanced recycling processes to maximise resource recovery and minimise environmental impact.

TIVA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata International, operates the Re.Wi.Re facilities. This partnership between Tata Motors and Tata International leverages the strengths of both organisations to advance sustainable mobility solutions. The collaboration aims to establish a more organised and environmentally responsible vehicle recycling ecosystem in India.

Advanced technologies

The Re.Wi.Re facility is equipped with advanced technology and follows environmentally responsible practices. The fully digitalised and paperless operations ensure efficient processing. Dedicated stations handle the safe dismantling of various vehicle components, including tires, batteries, fuels, oils, liquids, and gases. Meticulous documentation and dismantling processes adhere to responsible scrapping requirements and ensure safe component disposal in line with national policy.

The facility employs both cell-type and line-type dismantling methods for commercial and passenger vehicles. This allows for efficient processing of a wide range of vehicle types and sizes. The facility’s design prioritises the safe and responsible handling of potentially hazardous materials.

Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), established in 2005, is India's largest trailer manufacturer. With four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Ajmer, Jamshedpur, and Pune, TIVA has a strong presence in the trailer and truck body manufacturing sector.
