Varanasi: UP STF and Kopaganj police in Mau district arrested a rewarded criminal who was absconding for five years. Acting on a tip-off, STF, on Sunday, arrested Ratan Sonkar, who was hiding in the Larkania area of Bihar.
He landed in jail in 2018 after killing his friend in a monetary dispute. On coming out of jail, he indulged in criminal activities and absconded when he was booked under Gangsters Act. Police announced cash reward of Rs 50,000 on him.
During initial interrogation, Sonkar divulged he was living in a rented room in Mathiya Tola neighbourhood of Mau when he became friends with Karan. Later, dispute arose over a financial transaction and he murdered Karan by slitting his throat with the help of Shivkumar Sahni on Apr 5, 2018. He was sent to jail but managed to get bail. Four criminal cases were registered against him with different police stations. After he was booked under the Gangsters Act, he fled to Nepal and stayed there for a long time before returning to Bihar.
