Prayagraj: Building owners in Sangam City, yet to pay water and sewer tax, and those who failed to avail the exemption on interest by clearing the bill by Oct 31, can do it by Jan 31, 2025.
The date for exemption on interest on water tax has been extended till January 31, 2025. Besides, the water connections being used without permission from Jalkal department will be made legal by submitting their house number and other documents to the department. The decision was taken in the larger interest of the people by Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani. "The exemption on depositing the interest on water tax ended on October 31, but the decision taken by the mayor, keeping in mind the public interest, has given more time to the house owners," said the GM Water Works Department, Kumar Gaurav. This decision will also increase the number of people paying water tax, he added.
However, the official clarified that the 10% discount on the present bill, which was to be availed until October 31, has ended. "Only those building owners whose bills were erroneously generated by us or which were delayed because of a delay in correction from our end will be given a 10% discount," said the GM.
This decision will benefit more than 50,000 connection holders in the city. The demand for exemption on interest on water tax was made by the councillors for a month. With the exemption given again after 30 days, the number of people paying water tax can now increase. The councillors of the area are also making the building owners aware of the exemption. Revenue will also increase by depositing water tax.
- The 10% discount on water tax was available until October 31.
- 1.15 lakh people paid water tax last year.
- 2.36 lakh people have taken water connections.
- Around 78,000 people have deposited water and sewer tax.
