Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a public rally in Sanganer's Dadia village on Dec 17, marking his second visit to Rajasthan this month. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and BJP state president Madan Rathore, along with senior BJP leaders, inspected the rally site on Sunday in preparation for the event.
Although an official announcement for the rally date is awaited, sources said Modi's visit will mark the first year of Bhajan Lal Sharma's tenure as CM. He is also expected to inaugurate the ambitious Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) during the event.
Modi will also visit Rajasthan on Dec 9, to inaugurate the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit.
The ERCP is a significant initiative aimed at addressing the state's water scarcity issues by providing drinking water and irrigation facilities to 13 districts, including Jaipur. "ERCP was a contentious issue during 2023 Vidhan Sabha elections, with Congress accusing Modi govt of withholding national project status and funds to initiate the project. The inauguration or foundation stone laying, which has been pending since Jan this year, is expected to bolster Sharma's position and influence," a political analyst said.
One of the first decisions of the Sharma-led BJP govt was to sign an MoU with the Jal Shakti Ministry and the Madhya Pradesh govt to expedite the project.
