Coimbatore: Based on the information from the meteorological department ahead of Cyclone Fengal, the district administration on Saturday evening issued a heavy rain alert for Coimbatore from December 1 to 3.
In an advisory, the district collector advised the public to stay at their houses and go out only for essential work. He requested the people residing along the river banks and low-lying areas, which are prone to inundation, to move to relief camps and contact toll-free number 1077 for any help.
All builders have been instructed to keep their cranes down at construction sites and fix high-altitude equipment firmly to avoid any untoward incidents. Instructions have also been issued to remove billboards to secure them against winds.
The public as well as tourists have been advised to avoid fishing, recreation or taking selfies near water bodies. They also have been advised against visiting waterfalls at Valparai and reservoirs.
A 24-hour emergency control room has been set up at the district collectorate to address rain-related emergencies. Public could contact the control room at 1077 and 04222306051.
