Gurgaon: Overflowing sewer lines have disrupted the lives of residents of Sector 23A for the past two months. The issue has not been resolved despite repeated complaints to MCG officials, said residents.
The situation is particularly concerning near west zone's central park, where sewer water has flooded the roads, emanating a foul smell and making it difficult for people to even step outside their homes. The stagnant water has also turned the area into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
"This has been going on for the past two months. We raised the issue multiple times with MCG officials, but there was no action. The situation near central park is unbearable. The sewer water has flown onto the roads, and commuters have to face much difficulties. Residents have hired cleaners in hopes that the area be better maintained but this is not a lasting solution. The overflowing sewage needs to be fixed," said JP Dahiya, RWA president of Sector 23A (west zone).
Pedestrians are among the most affected. Residents have urged MCG commissioner to intervene and resolve the issue permanently. "Navigating the roads has become a nightmare. The smell is so awful that people cannot open their windows or stand on their balconies. It is not only an eyesore but a health hazard. Most of the sewer lines are clogged but we do not see frequent cleaning here. The civic body needs to clean the sewer lines properly through a super sucker machine," said BR Yadav, RWA treasurer.
In response to the accusations of lack of maintenance, a senior MCG official said, "We floated a tender for the operation and maintenance of sewer lines, but it did not wield results due to a lack of participants. However, technical bids have been opened now, and we will soon allot the work. Meanwhile, I will look into the complaints of residents and the needful will be done."
