Jaipur: With Valmiki sanitation workers in Jaipur abstaining from work for five days, demanding leniency in experience certificate requirements, the community has decided to convene a Mahapanchayat in the city on Sunday to raise their concerns and sharpen the demands. Decisions regarding the future course of action by the striking sanitation workers from the community will be decided at this gathering.
Deepak Dandoriya, president of Valmiki Samaj Vikas Sansthan, said, "Our foremost demand is the abolition of experience certificate requirements for Valmiki sanitation workers. Furthermore, recruitment preference should be accorded to workers from the Valmiki community. We shall raise these demands at the Mahapanchayat."
"Sanitation workers' unions and Valmiki community delegates from across the state are assembling in Jaipur for the Mahapanchayat on Sunday. We shall formulate our subsequent strategy there. Distinguished Valmiki community representatives from Rajasthan will participate as well," he added.
Dandoriya accused the state govt of "duplicity", saying, "The govt has misled the Valmiki community in the sanitation workers' recruitment process. The prevailing application criteria can solely be fulfilled through manipulation, thereby excluding numerous youths from our community. This is utterly unacceptable and reprehensible."
For two consecutive days, Valmiki sanitation workers have been trying to meet with urban development and housing minister Jhabar Singh Kharra to ameliorate the situation, but no meeting taken place yet. This has intensified their discontent. The Mahapanchayat will address these matters and determine the agitation's future trajectory, said the community's members.
