Chhapra: Police on Friday night busted an ATM cloning gang by arresting four people from Rajendra Sarovar area in Chapra town while they were planning to withdraw cash from an ATM.
Following their arrest and disclosures of other members involved in the crime, the police are conducting raids to nab other members of the gang.
Additional SP Raj Kishore Singh said during interrogation of the arrested criminals, the police seized some videos and photographs that displayed methods of withdrawing cash from the ATMs by cloning.
The accused—Rajiv Kumar, resident of Chhapra Kutchery station area, Abhishek Kumar of Mouna Chowk area, Ravi Kumar and Anupam Shukla, both natives of village Tejpurwa under Marhoura PS in Saran district—confessed to their involvement in other cases of cash withdrawal from ATMs. Abhishek, Ravi and Anupam have criminal history and they were involved in different cases lodged at various police stations of the district, said the additional SP.
"During interrogation, they revealed names of other members of the gang," said the additional SP, adding the gang members remained stationed at different ATMs and targeted illiterate and rural people by replacing their ATM cards and withdrawing cash.
The police have registered a case against them in Chhapra Town police station area under various sections of the BNS.
