Gurgaon: MCG will launch a comprehensive sanitation drive across the city. A total of 19 HCS officers has been assigned from various govt departments, including revenue department, labour department, GMDA, HRERA, HSVP and GMCBL for overseeing the drive.
These officers will supervise the drive throughout the 35 wards and the extended areas of the city. Each officer will receive support from joint commissioners of their assigned wards, along with senior sanitary inspectors and engineering staff, including assistant and junior engineers.
"We are going to launch this campaign from Monday. The 19 officers responsible for this were also assigned the task to oversee sanitation when Solid Waste Environment Exigency Program (SWEEP) was implemented in the city in June. The campaign will ensure that garbage is dumped at designated sites from where it will be transported to the landfill, instead of being dumped on the roads and public places," said an MCG official.
SWEEP was implemented after declaration of a solid waste exigency on June 12. Under the campaign, the state govt constituted teams headed by 19 officials from MCG, district administration, and GMDA to conduct analysis on gaps in the existing garbage disposal infrastructure, creating a GIS-based map for waste tracking, and developing an effective grievance redressal mechanism. The key areas covered under SWEEP include management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, ensuring the availability of sufficient machinery for waste processing, introduction of cleanliness awards, and implementing an information, education, and communication (IEC) plan to increase public awareness.
Under the campaign that is set to begin on Monday, officials said that each ward will be targeted at the micro level in order to ensure that the entire city is cleaned. Officials will also ensure regular lifting of waste from secondary waste collection points to reach this objective.
