Dibrugarh: Members of the Raijor Dal and Jatiya Yuba Bahini took to the streets in Sivasagar town on Saturday to protest against the escalating cost of essential commodities that has gripped the state in recent months. The protest saw a large turnout as demonstrators marched through the town, holding placards and banners while chanting slogans against the BJP-led govt. The protesters highlighted the dramatic surge in prices across vital commodities, from daily necessities to fuel.
"The common people are struggling to make ends meet. How can a family survive when prices of basic goods have doubled? The govt has become oblivious to our suffering," said Mohan Das, a Raijor Dal activist participating in the demonstration.
"The BJP govt promised ‘acche din' (good days), but all we see is inflation eating away at our savings. Cooking oil, vegetables, medicines, petrol, and diesel have all become unaffordable. The middle class and poor are bearing the brunt of this economic mismanagement," remarked Priya Gogoi, a Jatiya Yuba Bahini member.
The protestors expressed their discontent with the state govt's failure to address the inflation crisis, leading to calls for the resignation of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Food and civil supplies minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
"We demand accountability from our leaders. They must step down if they cannot control the price rise and provide relief to the suffering populace," Raijor Dal leader Hemanta Saikia said.
As the demonstration concluded, the protest leaders warned of intensified agitation if the govt fails to take concrete steps to address the price rise issue.
