Aizawl: Mizoram recorded no fresh pig death or culling to prevent the spread of ASF on Saturday.
Animal husbandry and veterinary officials said this is the fifth day that the state has not witnessed pig deaths. The first ASF outbreak was recorded on March 21, 2021 with an infection in Bangladesh bordering Lungsen village in southern Lunglei district. Since then the dreaded porcine disease has never left the state.
This year the first ASF case was confirmed on Feb 9 last at Leithum village in Champhai district bordering Myanmar. About 14,801 pigs have died of ASF since then with 257 villages being declared as infected by the department as of Saturday. The number of pigs being culled during this year due to ASF outbreak till date is 24,059.
