KANPUR: A man from Hamirpur district became an internet sensation after being seen carrying a massive live crocodile—measuring 20 feet in length and weighing 150 kg—on his shoulders, leaving spectators astonished.
A widely circulated social media video showed the individual, reportedly a forest department staff member, transporting the reptile, which had caused panic among village residents for the past three weeks.
About three weeks ago, a crocodile appeared in a pond near the pasture by the Betwa River in Pauthiakhurd village. Local residents who approached the pond to collect water were forced to find alternative sources, as the crocodile had established dominance over the area.
After receiving alerts, forest department personnel monitored the crocodile's activities for several days. They eventually devised a strategy to trap and relocate it, with assistance from the village community. The team successfully captured the reptile on Monday.
A social media clip showing a forest department personnel carrying the crocodile on his shoulders has gained widespread attention online. The local community had been living in fear of the large reptile, which had caused disruptions in the village for the past three weeks.
Forest Officer JP Singh stated that the crocodile was later released at the confluence of the Betwa and Yamuna rivers. "A team from Mahoba, including Jagdish Maurya and Pramod Raikwar, was also involved in capturing the crocodile," Singh added.
