U.S. News has released its rankings of nearly 25,000 public middle schools across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These rankings include traditional, charter, magnet, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) schools. Approximately 17,660 schools were evaluated based on six key factors, such as performance on state assessments and readiness for high school.
In addition to the national rankings, U.S. News has also highlighted the top public middle schools in each state. Here, we spotlight the top 15 public middle schools in Florida, recognized for their academic excellence and their success in preparing students for future academic challenges.

The rankings of top middle schools in Florida highlight institutions that excel in academic performance, student-teacher ratios, and overall educational quality. Leading the state is Doral Academy of Technology, ranked 1st, serving grades 6-8 with an enrollment of 287 students and a high student-teacher ratio of 144:1. Following closely is Okaloosa stemm Center, ranked 2nd, offering grades 6-8 with 365 students and an impressive ratio of 18:1. Pine View School, ranking 3rd, provides education from grades 2-12 with an enrollment of 1689 and a 16:1 ratio. Other notable schools include Bak Middle School of the Arts, Edgewood Jr/Snr High School, and West Shore Junior/Senior High School, all ranking within the top 6, each with strong academic programs and a student-teacher ratio that varies from 17:1 to 19:1.
Additionally, schools like Orlando Gifted Academy and Pinecrest Lakes Academy offer specialized programs, with the latter having a larger enrollment of 1006 students. A.D. Henderson University School & Fau High School, ranked 15th, offers K-12 education with an enrollment of 1325, though it faces a higher student-teacher ratio of 32:1. These schools represent a diverse range of educational environments, from arts-focused to STEM and gifted education, all contributing to Florida’s robust academic landscape.
