Kanpur:A 70-year-old woman, Shyam Kali, was beaten to death by her nephew following an altercation over the management of a mango orchard at Rafighari village under Hasanganj Kotwali police station in Unnao district on Wednesday.
According to reports, when Shyam Kali was working in the mango orchard with her sister's son Sunil On Wednesday morning, her nephew Babu Singh arrived and started quarelling with her over the orchard's upkeep. The situation turned violent when Babu Singh attacked Shyam Kali with a wooden field-levelling stick, causing critical head injuries. After the attack, Shyam Kali's granddaughter Poonam rushed her injured grandmother to the Community Health Centre (CHC), which then referred her to King George's Medical University (KGMU) Lucknow. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.
Poonam revealed that her grandmother owned a three-bigha mango orchard and field, previously managed by Babu. The dispute originated when Shyam Kali recently decided to oversee her orchard and fields personally, which angered Babu, resulting in the violent encounter. However, police have begun legal proceedings and lodged a case based on Poonam's statement.
Inspector Chandrakant Mishra confirmed that they are proceeding with FIR registration following the complaint from the victim's family members.
