Jaipur: With plans to re-auction all toll plazas on state highways after FasTag becomes operational, Rajasthan State Road Development Corporation (RSRDC) has started outsourcing the work of tracking volume of traffic and revenue generated at toll plazas.
RSRDC needs the data to revise toll rates and also to fix the bid price of tenders for auction of toll plazas.
"The goal is to re-auction toll plazas after FasTag is implemented, ensuring a more competitive and fair bidding process for future operators. For this, it is very important to know the actual volume of traffic crossing the toll plazas and the actual amount of revenue generated. This outsourced manpower will help us in this effort," said an official.
Officials said a major problem with old operators is that they are not showing interest in using the FasTag system. There have been complaints that these contractors tried to disable this system, due to which accurate tracking of vehicle traffic was not possible.
"The contractors disable the system and charge toll at a lower rate than the actual charge and allow vehicles to cross the toll without any govt receipt. In this way, the govt is losing a huge revenue," said an RSRDC official.
A senior official from the corporation said that in the future, the govt may adopt the policy of outsourcing operators from a tech-support company, rather than giving tenders to a contractor. With FasTag being implemented, the required manpower would drastically reduce. It would require only a few personnel who are tech-savvy.
