Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has directed the election commission of India (ECI) to preserve all documents and CCTV footage related to the 2024 elections in Aligarh Lok Sabha constituency till the disposal of an election petition filed by Samajwadi Party candidate Chaudhary Bijendra Singh.
Singh had lost in the polls to BJP's Satish Gautam by 15,647 votes. While Gautam received 501,834 votes Singh could manage only 486,187 votes.
In his election petition, Singh claimed that 11 voting machines were not opened during the vote count and that the election officials were working under govt pressure
A division bench comprising of Justice Shekhar B Saraf and Justice Vipin Chandra Dixit granted the ECI 4-week time to file an affidavit responding to the SP candidate's plea and listed the case for Jan 27, 2025.
