Kanpur: Tushar Suryavanshi's splendid century propelled visiting Vidarbha to post a modest score of 5 for 247 in their first innings against UP on the opening day of their four-day Under-19 Cooch Behar trophy match at Green Park on Thursday.
Tushar arrived at the crease when Vidarbha lost opener Sarvesh Ikhankar for 3, subsequently making the innings initially with captain Devansh Thakkar (41) and later playing a 86-run partnership with Shree Chowdhary, steering Vidarbha to a comfortable position.
Following Tushar's departure, Shree assumed the responsibility of scoring runs alongside Vedant Dighade, with the duo forging an unbeaten 54-run partnership for the sixth wicket. At stumps, Shree remained unbeaten on 60 while Vedant accompanied him on 37.
Opting to bat first, Vidarbha encountered an early setback in the eighth over with merely 13 runs on the board. They lost Sarvesh for 3, falling to Ankur Sharma. Captain Devansh, who commenced the innings, found reliable support in Tushar as they recovered from the early loss.
Shortly before lunch at 98, Vidarbha lost captain Devansh Thakkar for 41, caught brilliantly at slip by Bhavi Sharma. Devansh 41 came off 109 deliveries, including five boundaries.
During the post-lunch session, Tushar received a reprieve on 58 when Devansh misjudged a high catch. Tushar subsequently reached his century off 196 deliveries, comprising 14 boundaries and a six. Shortly after reaching the milestone, he was trapped lbw by Akshu Bajwa.
Vidarbha lost two additional wickets in the post-tea session--Shreyansh (1) and Iknoor (0). Vedant provided support to senior partner Shree Chowdhary as they navigated through to stumps without further loss. For UP, Akshu Bajwa claimed 2 wickets, while Kishan Kumar Singh and Ankur Sharma secured one wicket each.
