The Maharashtra elections marked the worst-ever performance by the Congress in the state since 1962 — the grand old party won just 15 out of the 101 it contested, a strike rate of just under 15%.

The Maharashtra government reinstated IPS officer Rashmi Shukla as Director General of Police (DGP) after assembly polls concluded, an order issued by the state home department said. Sanjay Kumar Verma had taken over as the state’s top police officer earlier after Shukla was removed from the DGP’s post on the EC’s directive ahead of the polls.
On November 26, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputies Fadnavis and Pawar resigned. The Governor has asked Shinde to act as a caretaker chief minister till a new CM is sworn in.
In the Assembly elections, the BJP won 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which won 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
