Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) will remove an encroached building on Saramedu Main Road at Karumbukadai in ward 86. The building has been obstructing the 60-foot-wide road for more than 40 years, shrinking it to 20 feet.
With the combined efforts of the local body and several residents' welfare associations, an eviction notice has been issued to the building owner.
Ahamed Kabir, ward 86 councillor, said, "An encroachment drive was initiated in this area in 2019. It was paused due to various administrative reasons and Covid. The civic body has resumed the eviction drive on this road with a combined effort from residents' welfare associations and United Jamaath. More than 20 houses are listed as encroachments."
Ayub, president of Karumbukkadai Membattu Kuzhu, said, "The purpose of the eviction is to remove the building. However, the building owner sought a patta for the land 35 years ago and refused to vacate the land. Despite the corporation's offer to provide an alternative land of the same value, the owner denied it. Finally, the civic body issued an eviction notice and will clear the place by Wednesday."
