Gurgaon: GMDA CEO A Sreenivas reviewed the green cover enhancement efforts by private organisations and colonisers through their CSR partnerships with GMDA on Wednesday. The assessment revealed that 46 companies failed to meet GMDA's prescribed standards during their contractual periods, with their performance being notably inadequate.
According to the environment division's report, GMDA has signed 127 MoUs with private entities to develop and improve green belts, central verges, and open spaces throughout the city as part of their CSR commitments. These partnerships aim to enhance the city's green spaces through beautification, plantation, and horticultural development.
Sreenivas said the development and beautification of green belts is a key priority for GMDA. He added that action would be taken against companies failing to adhere to the agreed-upon norms. Notices will be sent to those underperforming companies, and warnings will be issued to encourage compliance.
In Feb 2023, GMDA partnered with private companies to maintain green belts along major city roads, including tasks related to beautification and horticultural upkeep. The initiative was guided by a standard operating procedure (SOP) and was designed to foster a competitive environment among private entities, with top-performing green belts being ranked based on several criteria.
Former CM Manohar Lal Khattar directed GMDA in Dec 2021 to involve private sector partners in the city's green cover enhancement, hoping to drive better outcomes through a more competitive approach.
