Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha has said that the government is focussing on incorporating crafts into tourism, with the goal of positioning the union territory as a leading cultural destination. The initiative aims to attract international tourists and boost the local economy. Sinha made these remarks during the 60th anniversary celebration of the World Crafts Council (WCC) held in Srinagar.
During his speech, the Lieutenant Governor extended his congratulations to all artisans in attendance and praised the efforts of the Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Industries & Commerce in Jammu and Kashmir, and the WCC for their role in promoting the rich traditions of handicrafts and handloom. He commended the initiative to bring together distinguished artisans, designers, and creative leaders from around the world.
Sinha emphasised the government's commitment to unlocking the full potential of the handloom and handicraft sector in Jammu and Kashmir. "My vision is to make ‘Made in Jammu Kashmir’ products renowned worldwide and an integral part of homes everywhere," he said. He noted that the government's focus is on fostering global collaboration and enhancing the global connection to India's artistic and cultural heritage.

Sinha reiterated the government's dedication to integrated development, particularly through initiatives aimed at increasing employment opportunities and promoting the export of handloom and handicraft products. "We are working on incorporating crafts into tourism and positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a premier cultural destination to attract international visitors, which will also provide a boost to the tourism industry and strengthen the local economy," Sinha was quoted as saying by PTI.
He called on artisans, especially those at the grassroots level, to actively participate in efforts to make Jammu and Kashmir self-reliant. Additionally, he assured artisans and entrepreneurs of the government’s full support in addressing their concerns and promoting the growth and competitiveness of the handloom and handicraft sectors.
The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay, an Indian craft pioneer and one of the founders of the World Crafts Council, recognising her significant contributions to the promotion of handicrafts and cooperative movements that uplifted women and craftsmen.

During the event, Sinha visited the craft exhibition, where he toured stalls featuring local, national, and international artisans. He also honoured artisans who have excelled in their craft. To mark the milestone of the WCC’s 60th anniversary, the World Crafts Council City Book, highlighting its journey, was released.
