Coimbatore: Three youths were arrested on Monday for attempting to murder a 51-year-old man near Ondipudur rail overbridge (ROB) on November 19. Police also seized two machetes and a motorcycle from them.
The arrested youths were identified as S Guruselvam, 25, from Ramanathapuram district, P Silambarasan, 19, and N Praveen Kumar, 26, both from Sivaganga district. Police said all three suffered fractures on their legs and hands when they jumped off the flyover at Ondipudur, when attempting to escape from cops.
Police said I Ramasamy, 51, of Kamatchipuram near Ondipudur in the city, was working as a driver in a private company. On November 19, Ramasamy skipped work and went to a Tasmac bar around 2pm to consume liquor. When he was returning home around 4.30pm, he was intercepted by the three-member gang under the Ondipudur rail overbridge. They attacked him with deadly weapons and fled from the spot.
Ramasamy suffered injuries on the right side of his head, left hand, left ankle, and right thigh. He was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment and was later shifted to a private hospital in the city.
Singanallur police formed three special teams to arrest the three. Meanwhile investigation revealed that Ramasamy's niece S Periya Pappa alias Thangamanickam, from Tenkasi district, had hired the three to murder him over a family dispute. She had befriended Guruselvam over TikTok and sought his help in eliminating her uncle. Guruselvam roped in two of his friends and the three went to Coimbatore to murder Ramasamy.
All three have been remanded in judicial custody. Police had earlier arrested Periya Pappa from Pappampatti bus stop in Coimbatore district on November 23. Further investigation is on.
