Villagers in Dilawapur, India, protested for two days against an ethanol factory, demanding its closure due to pollution concerns. They blocked the highway, clashed with police, and held a government official captive for six hours. The district collector halted factory production and informed the chief minister of the situation.
HYDERABAD: Nirmal district Collector Abhilash Abhinav on Wednesday issued orders to stop production at the ethanol factory in Dilawapur following protests by the villagers. On Wednesday, the Collector held discussions with the protestors and informed them that the issue was taken to the notice of chief minister A Revanth Reddy.
Hundreds of villagers took to the roads for the second day on Wednesday, staging a sit-in on the highway. Some of the protestors hurled stones at police vehicles and pickets.
On November 26, the villagers resorted to a protest on the highway, demanding that the ethanol factory at Dilawapur be closed as it would cause pollution. The situation took a turn for the worse as the protestors refused to allow RDO Ratna Kalyani to leave the place. They surrounded her car and blocked the way.
After a tense six-hour situation, the police swooped in and got the RDO away from the protestors who literally held her captive. The police also booked a case against some people for the act.
The protestors on Tuesday, who once again laid siege to the highway, demanded that all those arrested be released, or else they would continue their stir indefinitely.
