Daltonganj: Two Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) ultras were arrested by Latehar police from Sikit-Bandua forest under Herhunj police station on Monday night, police said.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said, “We received a tip-off about the presence of Maoists in Sikit-Bandua forest. CRPF forces arrived as reinforcement. The JJMP ultras, on seeing police, took women and children as human shield in their attempt to flee. They also resorted to firing, which the police retaliated, leading to a gunfight. The rebels fled deeper into the forests taking advantage of darkness. But two were nabbed.”
An SLR, an Insaas rifle, and a semi-automatic rifle, 96 cartridges, around 200-round of ammunitions, and other items were recovered during the search operation in the area, the SP added.

Two forest personnel injured while chasing elephants
Two forest personnel tracking a 24-member elephant herd in Odisha's Sambalpur district were injured Thursday after being chased by a tusker. Dayanidhi Bag and Kishore Pradhan, contractual employees, were pursuing the herd in Badbahal range when the incident occurred. While fleeing, both men lost control and sustained fractures one to the rib cage, the other to a hand.
