New Delhi: A court recently sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment of 12 years for repeatedly committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a 6-year-old girl in 2016.
The court of additional sessions judge Rohit Gulia was hearing the arguments on sentencing against the 27-year-old man, who was earlier convicted under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of Pocso Act.
Special public prosecutor Chander Jeet Yadav said the convict did not deserve leniency as he had committed a heinous offence.
In Sept, while convicting the accused, the court noted the testimony of the child and the medical evidence and said it was established that the accused, a neighbour, called the girl to his house on several occasions, gave her his phone to play, and then inserted his finger in her private parts. Penetrative sexual assault amounts to aggravated penetrative sexual assault if the same is committed with a child more than once or is committed upon a child below 12 years, the court pointed out. tnn
