All the six are businessman and had come to the building on Sunday for a party at the flat of a common friend living in the new complex located near the urban primary health centre in Chandulal Baradari.
Police said that the accident happened as the six, all in their 40s, were leaving after the party around 11.30 pm.
When the six entered the lift and pressed the button for ground floor, the lift malfunctioned and crashed to the ground, police said.
"Three persons – Abdul Waheed, Mohammed Wazeer and Mohammed Ali – have fractures in their leg. They were taken to the emergency ward of a private hospital. All the injured persons are out of danger. But three of them need surgery for the fracture," a cop from Kalapathar police station said.
While the exact reason for the lift collapse is yet to be ascertained, residents said that the apartment had only recently opened and the elevator awaited inspection.
"We do not know the lift's maximum capacity. All six had entered together. May be it was beyond the maximum weight. The installation firm has not yet issued the operational certification for the lift," said a resident.
Police said that no case has been registered as yet.
