A lawyer has petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court to recoup costs from Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for a Jind rally, alleging misuse of public funds for political gain. The petition claims approximately 1,200 government buses and other resources were utilized, causing public inconvenience and disrupting services. The lawyer argues this warrants disqualification under constitutional provisions.

CHANDIGARH: A petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking directions to recover expenses from Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini for state govt’s Jind rally on Sunday.
It has been alleged that public funds were spent on the rally for personal political gains. Around 1,200 govt buses and other state resources were used during the rally, the petition has claimed. As per the petition, filed by a Mohali-based lawyer, Saini and his ministers attract disqualification for misappropriating public exchequer as per constitutional provisions for causing unnecessary financial burden on the exchequer.
It has also been stated in the plea that 1,194 buses were deployed on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti to gather crowds for the rally. Of these buses, 103 came from Karnal, 75 from Kaithal, 25 from Sirsa, 10 from Gurugram, 24 from Panchkula, 250 from Rohtak, 25 from Fatehabad, 20 from Nuh, 250 from Jind, 60 from Bhiwani, 50 from Hisar, 30 from Dadri, 50 from Panipat, 25 from Sonipat, 20 from Rewari, 42 from Yamunanagar, 50 from Ambala, 65 from Kurukshetra, 10 from Jhajjar, and 10 more from Palwal.
The petition said the use of these buses caused great inconvenience to public, and affected emergency services due to traffic jams.
As per the petition, there was no power lying with the CM to use funds for the rally or use public buses to ferry people.
