Coimbatore: The city municipal corporation (CCMC) has received funds worth 1.2 crore to construct additional buildings at two Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Velankurichi and Uppilipalayam. The state government has sanctioned 60 lakh to each facility.
A senior corporation health officer said, of the 360 sanctions issued by the state government, Coimbatore has received sanctions for additional facilities at two centres based on its high patient response.

"The primary focus for the PHC at Vilankurichi is to construct a Maternal Child Health Care centre, as the facility deals with at least 20 labour cases every month," he said.
He added that the foundation stone for the two additional buildings will be laid by chief minister MK Stalin, tentatively in January 2025.
Further, commenting on the vacancies across 45 health and wellness centres in the city, the officer said vacancies for 2 doctors, 2 nurses and 3 health inspectors are yet to be filled, while recruitment has been completed for the other vacancies, with a few still awaiting their official posting orders.
