The situation remains tense in Udaipur after Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters were denied entry into City Palace. This came hours after he was anointed the titular head of the erstwhile royal family of Mewar.
There was a heavy deployment of police outside the palace to prevent any untoward incident. There were reports of stones being pelted from inside the palace.
A feud between Mahendra Singh Mewar and his estranged younger brother Arvind Singh Mewar hung over the occasion. They are descendants of Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
Rajsamand MLA Vishvaraj Singh was anointed as the head of the erstwhile royal family in Chittorgarh fort on November 25, following the demise of his father Mahendra Singh Mewar earlier this month.
He planned to visit the Eklingnath temple of the family deity and the City Palace in Udaipur as part of the rituals of the royal ceremony. His uncle Arvind Singh issued a public notice against the planned visit as both are under properties are under his control.
Arvind is the chairman and managing trustee of Shree Eklingji Trust in Udaipur.
The notices were published in local newspapers warning of legal action for trespass or damage to the property.
As Vishvaraj and his supporters could not enter the City Palace and the Eklingnathji temple, they tried to cross the barricading but the police stopped them.
