Dibrugarh: Tinsukia district administration has declared a 3-kilometre area surrounding the Aviation Research Centre (ARC) in Doomdooma as a no-drone zone to enhance security measures.
The decision, announced on Monday, comes in response to a formal request from the director of ARC, operating under the directorate general of security, cabinet secretariat.
DC Swapneel Paul issued the order following a comprehensive security assessment and recommendation from Tinsukia SP Abhijit Gurav.
"The establishment of the no-drone zone is a crucial step in safeguarding our sensitive aviation facilities. Our thorough analysis indicated the necessity of this restriction to prevent any potential security breaches through drone operations in the vicinity of the ARC. Local residents and drone operators must strictly adhere to these restrictions. Any violations will be dealt with according to existing security regulations," the DC said.
The declaration effectively prohibits the operation of any unmanned aerial vehicles within the specified radius, creating a protective buffer around the research facility.
The ARC, a vital installation under the cabinet secretariat, plays a crucial role in aviation-related research and development activities. The implementation of the no-drone zone aligns with national security protocols designed to protect sensitive govt facilities.
The district administration has begun the process of installing appropriate signage and notifications around the designated zone to ensure public awareness and compliance.
Law enforcement officials will monitor the area regularly to enforce the new restrictions, with special attention to unauthorised drone activities that could pose security risks to the research facility.
