Mangaluru: KMC Mangaluru, which is observing the 70th year Platinum Jubilee of the college, will host the 44th Annual Conference of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROICON 2024) from Thursday to Dec 1, at the Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre in Mangaluru. The AROI has more than 5,000 oncologists. The annual conference is the largest oncology conference happening in Mangaluru to date. AROICON 2024 will bring together leading experts, professionals, and researchers in the field of radiation oncology, said Dr B Unnikrishnan, dean of KMC.
He told reporters here on Tuesday that the inaugural ceremony of AROICON 2024 will take place on Friday. Dinesh Kumar Shukla, chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), will be the guest, and the programme will be presided over by Dr HS Ballal, pro-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. With over 1,800 registrations from across India, and a significant number of international delegates, this year's conference has set a record as the largest gathering in the history of AROICON. Delegates will participate in an array of events, including over 600 research presentations, more than 150 scientific sessions, debates, panel discussions, postgraduate quizzes, and various educational activities aimed at enhancing knowledge and expertise in the field of radiation oncology, he said.
Dr Dilson Lobo, joint organising secretary, said the conference will also feature the Indian College of Radiation Oncology (ICRO) Workshop - ‘IMPACT - Interactive Modules for Problem-based Assessment and Case-based Teaching' on Thursday, which is expected to engage over 400 participants. A significant highlight of the conference will be the distribution of more than 100 prizes in various categories, recognising excellence in scientific research, clinical innovation, and educational contributions, he said. The conference will feature over 40 trade exhibitors showcasing their innovative treatment solutions, he added.
