District minister KJ George hit back at BJP leaders for their criticism, stating that the schemes target disadvantaged populations and should not be politicised. He expressed appreciation for the officials' accomplishments.
Deputy commissioner Meena Nagaraj explained their systematic approach, following state govt guidelines. She highlighted how PDOs and VAs conducted door-to-door visits to increase scheme awareness. "We took it as an outreach programme, and we were monitoring the direct benefit transfer every month. In addition, resolving the issues of mapping the Aadhaar card and NPCI made the district be at the top," she said.
Regarding BPL status, officials clarified that no eligible families would lose benefits, though ration cards of income taxpayers and govt employees would be reclassified from BPL. They noted that the Union govt requested revision of 5.6 crore cards.
The discussion addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance on guaranteed schemes, noting his implementation of similar programmes in another state. The day concluded with the inauguration of the district guarantee schemes implementation authority office.
