CHENNAI: The low-pressure area in the Indian Ocean developed into a well-marked low-pressure on Sunday and was expected to evolve into a depression over the Bay of Bengal on Monday. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain for three days in Chennai and has extended the yellow alert until Friday.
The depression is likely to move northwestwards towards the TN-Sri Lanka coast for two days beginning Tuesday, said IMD.

On Monday, heavy to very heavy rain was forecast for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam districts, while heavy rain is expected to hit Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, and Villupuram districts.
On Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast over Cuddalore and Pudukkottai districts, while heavy rain is expected to lash Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Trichy, and Kallakuruchi districts.
Chennai is likely to get heavy rain from Wednesday onwards, which will intensify into very heavy rain over the next two days. On Tuesday, Chennai skies will be cloudy while some areas are likely to receive light spells.
However, Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John said a clear picture of the rain forecast and intensity of the system formed will be known only by Monday morning.
