Aizawl: After no fresh pig casualty for two consecutive days, Mizoram reported a surge in daily pig deaths (25) due to ASF on Monday in two districts. Lungdai village in Kolasib district bordering Assam alone recorded 24 deaths.
Animal husbandry and veterinary officials said ASF has claimed 14,766 pigs so far this year since the first casualty was confirmed at Leithum village in Myanmar bordering Champhai district on Feb 9.

At least 256 villages have been declared as infected as of Monday.
There were no reports of pigs being culled on Sunday, while one pig was culled at Kawnpui village in Serchhip district on Monday. The total number of pigs infected with ASF being culled rises to 24,044 as of Monday, the officials said.
