Patiala: Two months after the Punjab and Haryana high court allowed the recruitment of 1,158 assistant professors and librarians in Punjab govt colleges, 411 of them are still awaiting appointment letters.
On Sunday, the candidates staged a stir, and engaged in a scuffle with the police in Sangrur after they tried to march towards the CM’s residence in the city.

The turbans of some protesters were tossed, while a few others had their clothes allegedly torn during the stir. Paramjeet Singh, one of the protestors, said that two protestors, including Jagmeet Singh of Patiala and Deepak Kumar of Gidderbaha, faced knee and foot injuries after the police tried to prevent them from crossing a police barricade. “After the govt failed to provide us joining letters, we held a protest for 10 days in front of DPI office in Mohali. On Nov 10, we held a protest march in Gidderbaha and gheraoed the AAP office, whereas on Nov 16, we managed to protest and raise slogans during CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal’s rally in Gidderbaha. On Sunday, we protested in Sangrur, following which we have been given an appointment with the education minister,” said Paramjeet Singh.

They demanded swift action against those responsible. Police assured the protestors that they would investigate and take strict action against the perpetrator.
