Take a look inside $1.49M adobe mansion for sale with scenic views in Organ Mountains
A stunning adobe fortress tucked into the desert terrain of the rugged Organ Mountains is on the market for $1.49 million.
The southwest-style mansion, found at 4959 Spur Ridge in Las Cruces, beams of bright white — a contrast to the vast, mountainous landscape surrounding it. The nearly 4700 square foot home was constructed using the raw, organic earth it sits on, said its current owner, Justin Montgomery.
"Adobe homes this size are not built very often," he said. "Every adobe brick was built by hand and on site, so it's very one-of-a-kind."
Adobe uses a historic construction technique incorporating dirt, water, and binding materials like straw or grass. While adobe does well in warmer climates, Montgomery said since buying the property, he's spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect the structure and its surrounding wall during desert storms typically seen in the area.
"I've invested $500,000 in bringing it back to life," he said. "All the wood has been sealed and painted. This thing is watertight; this home is will last years without any issue."
Step outside and be captivated by the scenic views and active wildlife of Soledad Canyon, an area popular for hiking in the western foothills of the Organ Mountains. The property also features a sparkling, resort-style pool for hot days and chimenea for cold winter nights.
"You can still see the city, but there's nothing behind us, only the Organ Mountain's National Monument," Montgomery said. "So, it's very quiet out here and we don't really have any neighbors."
While the outside is a sight, the inside is just as spectacular. The mansion is adorned by handcrafted details by local artisans, lively Talavera, exposed vigas, and Saltillo tile floors — all features that give the home an authentic southwestern feel. Most of the material is from the surrounding region and Mexico, Montgomery said.
"All the wood on the house and beams are pine that came from Cloudcroft," he said. "It's all very locally sourced kind of stuff."
Realtor Aimee French is selling the property and said its breathtaking views, meticulous details, and overall landscaping make the home unique from others on the market. She also noted that while the architecture is traditional, the mansion encompasses several modern attributes, such as solar panels, pool equipment, and refinished floors.
"Some homes require an in person viewing to understand the scale of the property, this is one of them," she said. "There is no detail left untouched here."
While the home carries a hefty price tag, a handful of million-dollar homes have sold in Las Cruces in recent years, French said. In 2024, five homes sold at a million dollars or more.
"In the past few years, the Las Cruces market has grown alongside the national real estate market," French said. "Compared to larger cities in Arizona and California, you can get a lot more home and property in Las Cruces."
This adobe marvel sits on 20 acres of desert landscape on the mountainside — another attribute that makes the home stand out from its competitors.
"The house is for someone that is looking for positive energy, peaceful and tranquil — that's what this house will provide you," Montgomery said. "It's for someone willing to pay a premium for a house that was handmade."
