Hyderabad: A 16-year-old intermediate student was found dead in his hostel room at a private college in Miyapur on Saturday morning, with police suspecting the incident to be a case of suicide.
The deceased, identified as Gauri Shetty Kaushik Raghavulu, a first-year MPC student, was discovered unconscious between 5 am and 5.20 am when his roommates were absent. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was pronounced dead at 6 am due to asphyxiation.
"We received an alert from the college authorities around 5.30 am. Initial investigation suggesta death by suicide, but we are exploring all possible angles," said sub-inspector K Venkateswarlu of Miyapur police station. "A case of suspicious death has been registered, and we have launched a thorough investigation."
The police are looking into whether academic pressure or financial difficulties led the student to take the extreme step. "The victim's father is a flower vendor, and his mother works as a nurse. We are speaking with family members, classmates, and college staff to understand if there were any underlying issues," Venkateswarlu added. The deceased, along with his younger sister, lived with their parents near Charminar.
