Thiruvananthapuram: A 54-year-old woman and her daughter were injured after a ceiling fan fell on them at Peroorkada Govt Model Hospital on Sunday.
Geetha, of Para Pottayil Veedu at Pulari Nagar near Vattiyoorkavu, and her daughter Salini, 23, suffered injuries on the face and head in the incident. The accident caused a portion of the eyeglasses Geetha was wearing to pierce her eyebrow.
Peroorkada police registered a case against the contractor following a complaint lodged by the woman regarding the careless installation of the fan.The case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 324 (1) for causing hurt to any person by a wilful act and 125 for a negligent act that puts human life in danger.
"Geetha was admitted to the hospital for treatment a few days ago, and her daughter was the bystander. The incident happened while they were sleeping," said police.
The fan fell down from the hook after the screw malfunctioned. "Careless installation of the fan led to the incident. The contractor has been summoned, and necessary action will be initiated," said police.
