Patna: The body of a 28-year-old man with a strangulation mark on his neck was found on a railway track near Patna-Gaya-Dobhi old marg in Punpun, Patna district, Sunday morning.
Apart from the strangulation mark, the victim – identified as Santu Kumar, a resident of Itwarpur in the Parsa area – had injuries on his head and back. Locals spotted the body near the Surya Mandir in Jhaul Bigha around 7am while they were on their way to work.

Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and sent the body to PMCH for a postmortem examination.
Kanhaiya Singh, sub-divisional police officer II of Masaurhi, said that prima facie, it appears the youth was strangled to death by unknown assailants and later, they threw his body on the railway track. "The forensic team was called to gather evidence. The police have been examining the CCTV cameras around the railway track to identify the accused. The reason behind the murder has not been ascertained yet," he said.
Initially, the victim was not identified and no mobile phone was found on him, he said, adding, "Kumar was identified when the police uploaded his photo on social media. After verification, his body was handed over to his family for the last rites. The police are yet to receive an application from his family members."
According to the police, Kumar visited his maternal grandmother's house in Kevada village, Punpun. He went missing on Saturday evening when he left the house to meet someone, Kumar's family members said.
