Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge Parmeshwar Prasad on Saturday convicted three persons, identified as Ishu, Mukesh and Babloo to five years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3,500 for attempted culpable homicide. According to ADGC Indra Lata, the incident occurred on March 16, 2008, and the report was lodged by Vinod, brother of the injured Anand Sharma.
Anand Sharma was a contractor who had undertaken a contract for whitewashing a school building. As the labourers were not performing their work satisfactorily, he had halted the whitewashing work and settled their payments.
The labourers became agitated and threatened him with dire consequences. Shortly thereafter, they reappeared on the school campus armed with sticks, iron rods and phanti, and assaulted Anand Sharma who collapsed on the ground. The accused fled before others could arrive at the scene.
