Ahmedabad: After the deaths of two patients following an angioplasty procedure at Khyati hospital, others from the same village of Mehsana, who underwent the procedure, also got themselves checked or are on medication to ensure there are no ill effects.
From Borisana village near Kadi in Mehsana district, 19 persons were brought by bus on Nov 11 after the medical camp a day earlier. All 19 underwent angiography to ascertain blockages, and later angioplasty was performed on seven of them. Out of them, two died, and five were later shifted to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre (UNMICRC).
Sources close to the development said that while three were discharged on the first day of admission, two were discharged on the second day after they stabilised.
"But they have been asked to be on blood thinners and other medicines to ensure that they do not develop complications. The patients have also consulted other experts to ensure that the stent in their body does not hamper their heart or overall health," said sources.

Other patients who underwent the procedure at the hospital have also sought medical opinion, said sources. While the hospital faces action for the deaths that took place earlier, it has worried the patients that the procedures on them may or may not have helped them.
The management of the hospital is currently under probe, and the modus operandi they adopted to get the patients at the hospital is under scrutiny. The exact scope of the medical procedures carried out in the past two years is being investigated by the city crime branch.
