Jaipur: Rajasthan Youth Board has decided to promote extinct arts of the state in the forthcoming State Youth Festival along with science and technology, handicraft and different forms of sports.
Speaking to TOI, sports and youth affairs department secretary Neeraj Kumar Pawan said the department has added a category for the extinct arts and cultures of the state in this year's event. Youths involved in these forms of arts are being encouraged to take part in the event and exhibit their skills, he said.
"Although these arts and cultures are extinct or on the verge of extinction, we want to preserve them as they are unique to Rajasthan. The main aim behind including these arts and cultures in the event is to ensure their preservation. We can promote these forms on the world stage in future," added Pawan.
Officials said the list of the extinct arts of Rajasthan includes playing of traditional musical instruments like ravanahattha, algoja, bhapang, morchang and khadat, Rammat folk dance, mandana and phad forms of painting, and Manganiyar puppet show. A science and digital fair and cultural competitions will be organised during this event.
Youth Festival will start on Nov 25 at the block level and will continue till Dec 5.
