Congress leader Nana Patole has won the Sakoli Assembly seat in a nail-biting finish, securing 96,795 votes. He narrowly defeated BJP’s Avinash Brahmankar, who received 96,587 votes, by just 208 votes.


The Sakoli Assembly constituency in Bhandara district is among the high-profile seats in the 2024 Assembly election in Maharashtra and witnessed a tense poll battle between state Congress president Nana Patole and Avinash Brahmankar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As many as 13 candidates are in the fray for the Sakoli seat in the 2024 Assembly polls in Maharashtra. Here's a complete list of all the candidates:

Patole first secured a win from Sakoli in 2009 on a BJP ticket. Thereafter, he was nominated by the saffron party from the Bhandara-Gondia Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 and defeated former Union minister Praful Patel. However, Patole parted ways with the BJP in 2017 over the farmer's issue. Before his exit, he participated in the agitation for farmers’ rights in Akola.

Patole joined the Congress and was named the state president of Maharashtra. In 2019, he secured a win from the Sakoli, a key segment in the Bhandara-Gondia parliamentary constituency.

In 2019, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly election with 105 of the 288 seats, while the then-undivided Shiv Sena secured 56 seats. The Congress and NCP got 44 and 54 seats, respectively.

The current Mahayuti government includes the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). It is pitted against the MVA of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar's NCP-SP.

Sakoli: Polling Date

Voting in Sakoli, along with the rest of the Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, happened in a single phase on November 20. The result of the 288-seater Assembly will be announced on November 23.

In 2019, Congress' Nana Patole secured a win from the Sakoli seat after defeating BJP's Dr Parinay Fuke by 6,240 votes.
