New Delhi: A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering a 15-year-old boy in east Delhi's Anand Vihar after a quarrel with him.
On Nov 19, the boy was walking with his 8-year-old nephew and another friend to attend a religious event at a nearby temple when the confrontation happened. It began on Nala Road, when the boy had a disagreement with the accused individual.
The case was initially reported as death from an accidental fall, but the case took a turn when the nephew gave details about the boy's death.
A team from Anand Vihar police station investigated the case.
Utilising CCTV footage, the team tracked down the suspect. On Nov 21, he was arrested near the Anand Vihar railway station.
"During interrogation, the accused, identified as Mohammad Vakil Alam, said he had a verbal altercation. Alam alleged that when he asked the boys about their destination, they responded in abusive language," a senior police officer said.
Provoked by their remarks, he reportedly picked up a wooden stick and struck the boy on the head.Forensic evidence, including the blood-stained wooden stick used in the attack, were found at the crime scene.
The police registered a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused, a resident of Anand Vihar, was arrested and is currently in police custody.
